Certification

There are three levels of Certification:

  • DBR Practitioner
  • DBR Consultant
  • DBR Trainer

We welcome applications for DBR Practitioner certification and applications for DBR Consultant-In-Training. Please read the requirements below and contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you.

Important information:

We are neither a regulatory nor a licensing organisation. We do not certify, license, or authorise you to practise as a mental health professional. To be eligible for DBR trainings, you will be a qualified mental health professional, with two years’ post-qualification experience in your modality including working with trauma and early life adversity. You will be authorised to practise by your regulatory body and will hold indemnity insurance.

Certification of DBR Practitioners

Requirements:

1. Completion of the three DBR training levels.

2. Group or individual consultation for 25 hours within 2 years.

  • A minimum of five hours must be individual case consultation.
  • A minimum of six hours must be provided by DBR Trainers.
  • One hour of individual consultation = one hour
  • Two hours of small group consultation = one hour
  • A case log must be submitted.
  • For group consultation, confirmation of attendance and engagement is required.

3. Five hours of peer review of session transcripts or recordings annotated according to the DBR therapist guidelines. Peer reviewers must have completed DBR training Levels 1 to 3.

4. Eight hours – minimum – of individual DBR therapy sessions with, when possible, a Consultant or a Consultant-In-Training.

5. Approval of application for DBR Practitioner status.

6. Option to be included in Find a therapist listing on DBR website.

7. 5-year recertification.

Certification of DBR Consultants

To start the process, please make an application for DBR Consultant-in-Training here.

Requirements:

1. Assisting at the three DBR training levels where possible.

2. Group and individual consultation for an additional 20 hours.

3. Five hours of peer review of consultation session transcripts or recordings annotated according to the DBR therapist guidelines. These must show a good understanding of the neuroscience hypotheses underpinning clinical DBR.

4. A further eight hours – minimum – of individual DBR therapy sessions with, when possible, a Consultant or Trainer.

5. Approval of application for DBR Consultant status by Frank Corrigan.

6. 5-year recertification.
